Building relationships, valuing different perspective, seeking out and bringing marginalized voices to complicated issues and building consensus for meaningful and lasting change.

This was a year of tremendous growth for Delaware Guidance Services!
We expanded our presence in home and community settings and also added new services that will help us reach our mission to provide quality therapeutic services to children, youth, and their families to increase their social, emotional, and behavioral wellness.
Delaware Guidance Services now provides statewide services in 13 schools (up from 5 in 2017), we operate 3 therapeutic classrooms (up from 1 in the 2017-2018 school year) and 24/7 youth crisis response services are now provided statewide (vs. only in Sussex County). In order to meet this growing need, DGS hired over 80 new staff in 2018 and accepted 5 new social work graduates into our Advanced Career Training Program.
In addition to expanding our vital therapeutic and psychiatric services, DGS now helps educators and community-based organizations identify and work through trauma in classrooms and community-based settings. These DGS professional development and training services were designed in response to a growing need for trauma-informed education. DGS works closely with Delaware teachers, administrators, health care providers and staff in community-based and after-school programs to identify specific needs of children and families. Collaboratively with each school or provider, DGS develops and delivers curricula that give teachers and caregivers the tools they need to recognize and respond to children at- risk. One example of these new services is a curriculum currently under development that will help school staff recognize and provide supports to children at-risk for suicide.
While many of the clinical services DGS provides are covered by insurance, the new professional development services must be supported through other sources. DGS works hard to raise the additional funds and we need your help so that we can continue to realize our vision of resilient children in nurturing families.
As we think about the coming year, please consider a donation to Delaware Guidance Services. Please be confident in knowing that your donation will go towards strengthening Delaware’s children and families.
