Meet Our Clinicians

MEET OUR MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CLINICAL TEAM

Clients are served by a primary therapist, who is part of a multi-disciplinary team offering consultation, advice, and review of each case. This uniquely rich combination of disciplines provides a level of service which takes into account the individual needs of each child and family. With psychologists and psychiatrists on staff, DGS has the capability to handle very difficult cases requiring evaluation, intensive treatment, or medication therapy. Our staffing pattern allows us to treat the most seriously disturbed children and families and assures that DGS is able to handle the most complex cases effectively.

What therapeutic techniques do you use?

As a Program Manager at Delaware Guidance Services for Children and Youth, I lead a statewide crisis service for children and youth in Delaware, providing them with immediate and effective support, assessment, and referral. My mission is to empower young people and their families to cope with mental health challenges, trauma, and suicide risk, using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches and connect them with appropriate resources. I am also passionate about educating and mentoring the next generation of counselors and advocates through their work in the MRSS program.

What is your most important mental health tip for clients?

Natural supports and connections are as important to mental wellness as professional support. Connecting with others can help us feel close to people and valued for who we are, so identifying the people in our lives that we would like to make those connections with is important. Additionally, engaging in activities that bring a feeling of purpose and success are also very helpful when it comes to mental wellness, so seek out activities that you enjoy and feel good at!

What do you like most about working at DGS?

Delaware Guidance Services has provided me endless professional growth opportunities through continuing education, clinical supervision of my therapeutic and supervisory skills, and opportunities for professional advancement. I feel blessed to be a part of an organization that has such an important focus around the safety, wellness, and mental health needs of children and their families.

What therapeutic techniques do you use?

I use a relational approach that encourages exploration of ones history, along with past and current internal emotional experiences. We will take a journey to healing that encourages building an awareness and understanding of why we function the way we do today and how to build the bridge to help individuals and families reach the level of functioning that is a healthier version of you that you have hoped for in terms of clarity of the mind and body. We will design a cohesive treatment plan together and work gently and at your pace to reach your goals and help you achieve an optimal healthier and more positive way of living daily life.

What is your most important mental health tip for clients?

When it feels overwhelming, give yourself permission to take time for yourself. If it feels like you are not able to get through it alone, reach out to a friend, a family member or make an appointment with a therapist. Everyone deserves support and you do not have to go through heavy times alone. There is help.

What do you like most about working at DGS?

Delaware Guidance Services is a not just any therapy agency, it’s a family that supports each other, so that we can support the clients and families in the communities that we serve.

What therapeutic techniques do you use?

I typically tailor my services to meet the needs of the client, but I use a lot of interventions that align with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I enjoy using mindfulness and motivational interviewing techniques as well to help a variety of clients. I like to get a comprehensive picture of what is going on in my clients’ lives and find out what goals they have for themselves in order to create an individualized therapeutic approach. My approach is that every client has it within themselves to achieve their goals, I am simply along to help guide them!
