Outpatient services are offered at each DGS clinic statewide where therapy takes place in an office setting. Clinicians collaborate with family members, school officials and community partners to develop treatment plans geared specifically for each client. Special consideration is given for the family’s cultural heritage and community environment.
There are many reasons families seek assistance from DGS—behavioral problems, substance abuse, family conflicts, divorce-related issues and troubles in school. Other reasons may include a child’s destructive behavior such as setting fires, vandalizing property, or violence against self or others. While many children and families decide on their own to come to Delaware Guidance Services, many others are referred by schools, doctors, community organizations, and other agencies. In some cases, therapy is court ordered.
If you are in need of services for your family, please contact the
location closest to you. Our Intake Department will gather the necessary information and schedule your appointment with an available therapist. DGS accepts Medicaid for children and adolescents under 18. We also contract with the Division of Prevention and Behavioral Health Services to provide services and accept a variety of insurance plans. DGS does not turn away a child because of an inability to pay, so please be sure to discuss payment options with your intake representative.
