Day Treatment

Day treatment is an intensive daily program that provides a community-based alternative to psychiatric hospitalization or residential treatment for six to fourteen year olds. The children attend a regular school day between 8:45 am and 2:30 pm Monday - Friday and return home each afternoon. The period of enrollment is generally one to six months.

The following services are offered:

  • Structured Milieu
  • Behavior Therapy
  • Individual Counseling
  • Group Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Psychotropic Intervention/Medication Review (when necessary)
  • Psychiatric Evaluation
  • Special Education
  • Academic Testing
  • Recreational and Cultural Activities
  • Transition Services

Our team of Licensed Social Workers, Counselors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Certified Special Education Teachers and an Education Psychologist provide clinical and academic services. They are assisted in all program functions by trained paraprofessional and support personnel.

The staff at Day Treament strongly believes that participation by the family or caretaker is the single most important factor in a successful placement. The family/caretaker is viewed as being a part of the treatment team, and they are expected to be significantly involved in the therapeutic process.

The programs are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and are licensed by the state of Delaware.

All referrals to Day Treatment are made through the Delaware Division of Child Mental Health. Please contact your local Kent or Sussex office, or follow the link for Department of Services for Children, Youth and their Families (DSCYF) on the links page.
